Welcome to your child’s classroom community!  Community development with information regarding your child’s experience as a student this year and how to ensure Montessori in distance learning!

Overview of how to prepare your home environment developmentally for your child. Concepts: Isolation of difficulty, repetition, control of movement, engagement/concentration.

Review and clarifications about elements of the school’s Distance Learning plan. Plenty of time for questions from families.

Fostering Independence
Presentation of independence as a critical element of the Montessori method and the importance of maintaining this at home. Specific examples of how to foster independence during DL.

The skills of learning to read and an example (done by someone with a child at home?) of what reading with your child looks like.

Concrete to Abstract
How materials, especially, Sensorial/Geometry/Math curriculum are based on this idea. Ideas of how to support some hands-on elements during DL

Supporting the Emotional Life of your Child During the Pandemic
Discussion through the lens of the Planes of Development with examples of what families may be seeing/experiencing during the pandemic and how to respond.

The Role of Technology
Clear understanding of technology and its role in Montessori education. This could be an opportunity to offer guidance around screen time during this time

Spoken Language
Sharing of oral language games and activities as well as the importance of building spoken language as a foundation for literacy and communication.

Exploring the inter-relationship between these two concepts and the importance of balance. Discussion about how that relates to expectations during DL.
