PARTNERSHIP MEETINGS/CONFERENCES
July/August 2015

Welcome San Lorenzo Families,

I’m very excited to begin this new school year with you and your children! We have a beautiful classroom filled with Montessori materials and lessons and, more importantly, a beautiful group of children eager to explore it.  We have so much to look forward to in the coming months.

Tuesday, July 28 after the Bridge program, families are welcome to come on in and take a look at the classrooms. I’d love to meet you if you have a few minutes between 12:30 and 1:30.

Our Back-to-School BBQ is Sunday, August 2! This is a great family fun day with good food and a chance to get to know other families and guides. Please join us.

We will have a Parent Orientation evening August 12 at 6:15 pm, and we’ll go over all the fine details of life in San Lorenzo then, but there are a few things important to know for these first two weeks.

We have a regular start time of 8:15 am for the first day of school on Wednesday, July 29. Car line is open! If you have supplies to send in from the list, see if your child can carry them in herself. If not, please use the front entrance to sign in and you can help. Thank you so much for any donations of supplies you can give. It’s much appreciated.

Please have your child bring a (full) water bottle each day if possible. Though we have a water fountain, children have to leave the classroom to use it. There are glasses and a water dispenser in the class, too, but children often still want water at lunch and during recess.

Also please have your children bring a snack every day. They’ll be able to eat a snack during the morning whenever hungry, but only one. Please make sure the snack is packed separately from other lunch items so the whole lunch isn’t taken out and consumed in the morning. Also, snacks that are not messy and without a lot of packaging are great, especially since your child will be bringing trash home in the lunchbox. We will have a compost for fruit, veggies, egg shells, etc.

For lunch, children must bring a cloth placemat/napkin to spread out. This is very important for keeping our lunch areas neat and clean. (If you don’t have cloth napkins, you can pick them up cheaply at a thrift store or use a bandana or cut up any fabric in a square.)

Finally, I’ve noticed school shopping is already in full swing all over town. Please remember we don’t allow backpacks, folders, pencils, shirts, shoes, etc. with characters or messages on them They are distracting as we try to focus on our important, exciting work in the classroom.

Finally, my email is sanlorenzo@rivermontessoricharter.org. Please feel free to contact me if there’s a question that can’t wait until the parent orientation night. I check email in the mornings (before 6 am), so be sure to time any messages I need the same day accordingly. It also works great to write me a note and send it in with your child. Please know that I don’t generally check voicemail, so hopefully email and written notes will suffice for our communication.

I’m looking forward to working with our new and old friends in San Lorenzo. It promises to be a wonderful year. See you soon!
